Suffolk County Reports COVID-19 Hospitalization and Fatality Data

Suffolk County provided an update on COVID-19 statistics on April 28, 2024. According to the report, hospital admission rates and the percentage of COVID-19 deaths among all deaths are now the primary surveillance metrics, as stated by the CDC.

In terms of hospitalizations, the data for the week ending April 20, 2024, showed that there were 63 new hospital admissions of confirmed COVID-19 patients, with a percent change of -4.5% from the prior week. The hospital admissions per 100k in the past week were recorded at 2.2, indicating a low level of COVID-19 hospital admissions in the county.

On April 26, 2024, a daily hospitalization summary revealed that 19 individuals were hospitalized, with 53% of them hospitalized due to COVID-19 or complications of COVID-19. There were 4 new admissions since the last report, while 6 individuals were discharged. Notably, there were no patients in the Intensive Care Unit at that time.

Regarding fatalities, as of April 26, 2024, there have been a total of 5,282 fatalities in Suffolk County since March 2020, with an increase of 1 since the last report. The annual breakdown of fatalities shows a decreasing trend over the years, from 2,311 in 2020 to 136 in 2024 to date.

In terms of COVID-19 cases, on April 26, 2024, there were 42 cases reported in Suffolk County, with a rate of 2.8 cases per 100k and 2.5 on a 7-day average, including both PCR and antigen tests.

The department also offers COVID vaccines to uninsured and underinsured patients through New York State's Vaccines for Children program and Vaccines for Adults program. Individuals with insurance covering the vaccine are encouraged to receive their vaccines at local pharmacies, healthcare provider offices, or federally qualified health centers.
