Second-grade students at Tangier Smith Elementary School celebrated "International Talk Like a Pirate Day" on Thursday, September 19. The annual event, established in 1995, encourages participants to engage in pirate impersonations for the day.

Students from the classes of Mrs. McGovern, Mrs. Unger, Mrs. McCoy, Mrs. Wingler, Mrs. Romero, and Mrs. Worontsoff participated by dressing in pirate costumes and engaging in various themed activities. They read "How I Became a Pirate" by Melinda Long, created their own pirate names, and received pirate certificates.

Mrs. McGovern read "How I Became a Pirate" to her second-grade class as part of the celebration.
