New York Special Olympics Polar Plunge announced for November

At the September 28 Town Board Meeting, Councilwoman Jane Bonner introduced New York Special Olympics athlete Matt Schuster and Director of Development Alexis Dawson. They discussed the upcoming 14th annual New York Special Olympics Polar Plunge at Cedar Beach and encouraged participation and donations.

Councilwoman Bonner presented a proclamation declaring September 28 as Special Olympics Day in the Town of Brookhaven. Schuster spoke about the training required for Special Olympics athletes, noting that they prepare for weeks and months for various competitions. He highlighted that over 5,000 coaches and 4,300 volunteers support the athletes, who are not charged to participate in programs but rely on donations.

The 2024 Polar Plunge is scheduled for Saturday, November 23. Registration will begin at 9:30 am with the plunge set for 11:30 am at Cedar Beach located at 244 Harbor Beach Road in Mt. Sinai.
