Councilwoman Jane Bonner hosted a recycling event on October 5 at the Rose Caracappa Senior Citizen Cultural & Wellness Center in Miller Place. The event provided an opportunity for residents to dispose of electronic waste, shred old documents, and return unused prescription drugs safely.

The initiative saw participation from environmentally conscious residents who arrived in 517 vehicles. They collectively dropped off 7,260 pounds of electronic waste, 16,600 pounds of paper for shredding, and 12 boxes of prescription drugs for proper disposal.

"The Town of Brookhaven Paper Shredding, Electronic and Prescription Drug Take Back recycling event is sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk Credit Union," noted the press release.

Photographs from the event showed Councilwoman Bonner with various teams involved in the effort. She was pictured with Correction Officer Investigator Dominick Verni and Deputy Sheriff Dylan Hever, as well as crews from Arrow Metal & E-Waste Recycling and Data-Struction staff.

Additional recycling events are scheduled in other council districts within the Town of Brookhaven. These include an event led by Council District 6's Councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig on October 14 at Center Moriches Free Public Library. Another will be held by Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich from Council District 1 on October 26 at Setauket Fire Department. Lastly, Councilman Michael Loguercio will host one on November 2 at South Country Public Library.
