Eighteen fourth-grade student-musicians from the William Floyd School District have been chosen to participate in the 16th Annual Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA) PEAK Festival. This event selects 200 students from across Suffolk County based on nominations by their teachers.

“It is a big honor to be chosen for this event,” said SCMEA PEAK Festival co-chairs Cristen Salisbury and Jennifer Fischer in a congratulatory letter to parents. “You should be quite proud of your child’s musical accomplishments.”

The selected William Floyd students attended a conference at Northport High School in late October. At the conference, students engaged in music creation with their teachers and parents through workshops and games led by innovative music educators from Long Island. Activities included "drumtastic" drums alive, folk dance, singing games, world music drumming, chorus, and more.

The festival provided an enjoyable experience for both students and their families.

Congratulations were extended to all SCMEA PEAK participants and their teachers.

Representing William Floyd Learning Center under teacher Allison Prestia were Murat Cetin, Jaylee Reyes, and Kaleb Spencer. Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School had Mia Lin, Mia Reinoso, Tristan Reyes, Julia Volpe, and Killian Ziobro with teachers Chris Miranda and John Sapanaro. From William Floyd Elementary School were Emily Liberti, Serafina Lupo, Justin Pagano, and Maddisyn Ramos guided by Dara Wolfert and Maria Rueda. John S. Hobart Elementary School was represented by Amna Ahmad and Presley Bonner under teacher Thomas Bradbard. Moriches Elementary School featured Joylena Alston, Dylan Mejia Hernandez, Taylor Meye, and Zachary Tucker with guidance from Zachary Carrillo and Jessica Salaway.
