On December 2, Brookhaven Town officials oversaw the demolition of a long-vacant "zombie house" located at 691 Horseblock Road in Farmingville. The building had been uninhabitable for years and was considered an eyesore by local residents. Its removal was part of the town's efforts to eliminate unsafe structures from neighborhoods.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Councilman Neil Manzella were present during the demolition. The action was carried out under Chapter 73 of the Town Code, which provides a streamlined process for dealing with such properties.

"The cost of demolition, debris removal and restoration of the land to nature is the responsibility of the property owner," according to town regulations. Residents interested in viewing this or other demolitions can do so on Brookhaven Cable TV Channel 18 or visit www.BrookhavenNY.gov.
