Stony Brook University's Division of Student Affairs has been recognized as one of the 2025 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs. This accolade was announced by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, a publication dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion in American higher education. The recognition was given in partnership with College Student Educators International (ACPA) and includes only 22 colleges and universities across the United States.

Rick Gatteau, Vice President for Student Affairs at Stony Brook University, expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment. "While we know how hard our colleagues work to value each member of our team, we are grateful to be recognized by others," he stated. "To be acknowledged once more by one of education’s most prestigious organizations affirms that our efforts towards employee happiness, retention, and work/life balance are on the right track."

The research leading to this recognition focuses on workplace diversity, staffing practices, and work environment through a web-based survey approach. It examines categories such as family friendliness, salary/benefits, and professional development opportunities.

This is not the first time Stony Brook's Division of Student Affairs has received this honor; it was previously recognized in 2023, 2018, and 2015 with an honorable mention in 2022. Other institutions named include William & Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, and UC Berkeley.
