Stony Brook Medicine has been recognized as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for 2025 by Healthgrades. This accolade places Stony Brook Medicine among the top 1% nationwide for overall care excellence, and it is the only institution on Long Island to achieve this ranking. The assessment covers Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital.

William A. Wertheim, MD, MBA, Executive Vice President of Stony Brook Medicine, stated: “This distinction reflects our shared commitment across Stony Brook Medicine to bring exceptional care to our patients.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards throughout the organization.

Carol A. Gomes, MS, FACHE, CPHQ, Chief Executive Officer of Stony Brook University Hospital, expressed gratitude towards healthcare professionals: “I am grateful to all of our healthcare professionals for their dedication to excellence.” She noted that the hospital's steady rise in rankings provides confidence in their consistent quality care.

Healthgrades determined the top hospitals by evaluating risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 conditions and procedures at around 4,500 hospitals nationwide. The analysis highlighted significant performance differences between top- and bottom-performing hospitals. Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades commented: “As one of America’s 50 Best, Stony Brook Medicine is elevating the standard for quality care nationwide.”

The award follows several specialty awards received last fall by Stony Brook Medicine. Consumers are encouraged to visit healthgrades.com for guidance on finding top-rated care in 2025.

Stony Brook Medicine integrates education, research, and patient care through its various institutions including five Health Sciences schools and multiple hospitals. Healthgrades aims to connect patients with healthcare providers and enhance transparency in healthcare services.
