Stony Brook Medicine has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for 2025. This accolade places Stony Brook Medicine in the top 1 percent nationwide for overall care excellence and marks it as the only hospital on Long Island to achieve this ranking. The award encompasses Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital.

"This distinction reflects our shared commitment across Stony Brook Medicine to bring exceptional care to our patients," stated William A. Wertheim, MD, executive vice president of Stony Brook Medicine. "This is only possible when we collectively maintain the highest standards of quality throughout the organization."

Carol A. Gomes, chief executive officer of Stony Brook University Hospital, expressed gratitude towards their healthcare professionals: "I am grateful to all of our healthcare professionals for their dedication to excellence." She highlighted the hospital's steady rise in rankings over the years: "Our steady increase in rankings — from the top 250 since 2015, to the top 100 since 2019, and now the top 50 for three years in a row — can give patients confidence in knowing that Stony Brook delivers consistent, high-quality care."

Healthgrades assessed more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide based on risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 conditions and procedures. Their analysis revealed significant performance differences between hospitals, emphasizing the importance of seeking care at a highly rated facility. According to Healthgrades' data from 2021-2023, if all hospitals performed like America's 50 Best, approximately 173,516 lives could have been saved.

"As one of America’s 50 Best, Stony Brook Medicine is elevating the standard for quality care nationwide," said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of Data Science at Healthgrades. "Healthgrades commends Stony Brook Medicine for their leadership and ongoing commitment to providing the best possible care for all patients on Long Island."

This recognition follows several specialty awards received last fall by Stony Brook Medicine. These honors underscore its commitment to outstanding patient care.
