Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Suffolk County Legislator Jim Mazzarella were recognized for their contributions to the community by the Sons of Italy, Dr. Calabro Lodge 3011. The event took place at the first annual “Celebration of Life & Learning Gala” on January 23 at Sunset Harbor Catering in East Patchogue.

Both Panico and Mazzarella hail from the Tri-Hamlet area and are alumni of William Floyd High School. They were honored with proclamations from Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine during the ceremony.

In addition to being recognized, both officials participated in awarding the Dr. Calabro Scholarship to 18 students from William Floyd High School and Our Lady Queen of Apostles Regional School in Center Moriches.

Supervisor Panico expressed gratitude towards "the Dr. Calabro Lodge, Legislator Mazzarella, and Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine for their continued support" of the local communities including Mastic, Mastic Beach, and Shirley.
