Rep. Nick LaLota announced the passage of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum Act (H.R. 835) in the House with bipartisan support. This legislation aims to provide funding for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City, ensuring its maintenance and future accessibility.

LaLota's bill has garnered support from several original cosponsors, including Troy Carter, Dan Crenshaw, Monica De La Cruz, Brian Fitzpatrick, Andrew Garbarino, Dan Goldman, Josh Gottheimer, Lauren Gillen, Tom Kean, Jen Kiggans, Mike Lawler, Susie Lee, Nicole Malliotakis, Jerry Nadler, Tom Suozzi, and Nydia Velázquez.

In a statement reflecting on his role in leading this effort as a "lifelong New Yorker and a Naval Officer on active duty on 9/11," LaLota emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of those affected by these events. He said it is crucial to ensure "future generations understand its impact on our nation."

The act includes provisions for a one-time grant to cover security and operational costs at the memorial site. It also supports free admission for military members and first responders involved in the attacks and maintains free public access hours weekly. Furthermore, it allows for annual federal audits of financial statements.

Located in New York City, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum serves as a tribute to nearly 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, as well as those impacted by the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

This legislative effort was initially co-sponsored by LaLota during its introduction by former Representative Anthony D’Esposito in Congress.
