On February 9, 2025, LaLota celebrated National Pizza Day by expressing his appreciation for Long Island's pizza. He shared that he had tried pizza in various states and countries but found nothing comparable to Long Island's slices due to their fresh ingredients and family recipes. Later that day on February 9th, LaLota announced the return of Kai Li from wrongful detention by the Chinese Communist Party after over eight years. He expressed honor at welcoming Li back to his district office and pride in advocating for his release alongside Li's son Harrison. This reunion underscored the importance of America's advocacy efforts abroad according to LaLota's statement."After 3,001 days of wrongful detention by the CCP, Huntington's Kai Li is back in the U.S."
