Kara Gerstein and Angela Reis have joined Stony Brook Medicine's Functional Therapeutic Activities department, where they apply their expertise as music and art therapists. They work at Stony Brook University Hospital's psychiatric ward, utilizing the arts to aid in patient recovery and wellbeing.

Gerstein and Reis emphasize the transformative impact of personalized therapy. They focus on adapting their sessions to meet each patient's unique needs. "When they come into the room, they might see things that inspire them, that open the door for them to try new things. And then we build off of that," said Angela Reis.
