After a demonstration led by progressive protesters, Congressman LaLota (R-Suffolk) extended an invitation to meet face-to-face with the protest leaders. The protestors had demanded answers from LaLota regarding President Trump and Elon Musk. However, all five protest leaders declined his offer for a meeting at his district office.
In response, LaLota announced plans for his 21st Town Hall meeting since taking office. This event is scheduled as a telephone town hall on March 5th, where he anticipates over 10,000 constituents will participate.
"While I’m disappointed that the protest leaders declined my invitation to engage in a respectful discussion, I’m deeply troubled by the hateful and inappropriate signs displayed during their demonstration, including references to Nazis and explicit imagery. Such divisive tactics do nothing to foster meaningful conversation. I believe in addressing issues with respect and dignity, which is why I’m offering my 21st Town Hall on March 5th, where over 10,000 constituents can come together to have a real, productive dialogue,” said LaLota.
The tele-town hall is set for Wednesday, March 5th at 6:00 pm. Constituents interested in participating can sign up at lalota.house.gov/townhall.
LaLota's invitation was sent out with just 24 hours' notice via email on Wednesday. It was addressed to contacts on file and publicly available information for groups such as the Long Island Network for Change, Suffolk Progressives, Progressive East End Reformers, LI Activists, and the Long Island Progressive Coalition.
Of these groups invited for a face-to-face meeting with LaLota, three—Long Island Network for Change, Suffolk Progressives, and LI Activists—declined due to scheduling conflicts. The remaining two groups did not respond to the invitation.
