Stony Brook University recently honored employees who have served the institution for 25 years or more during a Service Recognition Luncheon held on February 27 at the Bauman Center for Leadership and Service. The event recognized the dedication of 465 employees whose long-term commitment has contributed to making Stony Brook a top-ranked public university in New York.
Interim President Richard L. McCormick expressed his appreciation to the honorees, acknowledging their impact on the university's growth and success. "Those of you who are gathered in this room today shape our university into the best it can be. Through your dedication to excellence and service to our students, Stony Brook keeps getting better and better," he stated. "We are New York’s number one public university, and could never have achieved this level of success without individuals like yourselves, making up the backbone of our university."
McCormick also emphasized the supportive culture at Stony Brook, saying, "Like many other outstanding universities, ours is filled with smart, determined, and driven individuals, but here at Stony Brook, they have each others’ backs. Our Stony Brook culture of support and gratitude is unique. I noticed it immediately when I arrived here, and I continue to cherish it every day — as I know you do. And as we continue to become more impressive as an institution, we know this would not be possible without the dedication of you all here today."
Among those honored were three employees celebrating 55 years of service: Sherry Chang, William Huebsch, and Kenneth Short.
