New York State Senator Anthony Palumbo has announced the opening of applications for the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators' annual scholarship program. For 2025, four scholarships worth $3,000 each are available, with two awarded for academic excellence and two for athletic achievement.
Eligible applicants include residents of the 1st Senate District who are either enrolled in college or high school seniors preparing to attend college. Applications can be submitted online at https://www.nyiacsl.org/apply-for-scholarship-form until March 30, 2025, by 5 p.m.
“I am pleased to join my colleagues in the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators in announcing these scholarship opportunities for area students,” said Senator Palumbo. “These scholarships can provide students with additional support for college and help ease the financial burden of achieving their degree. I encourage all qualifying scholars and athletes to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, show active involvement in community service and extracurricular activities, demonstrate financial need, and participate in organized sports for athletic awards. Italian American ancestry is not required.
Winners will be announced in April and honored at an event in Albany. This initiative underscores the commitment of the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators to supporting both the Italian American community and fostering academic and cultural excellence across New York State. Last year’s recipient from the 1st Senate District was Timothy Manzello, who received the James D. Conte Memorial Scholarship for Academic Achievement.
The New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators is a bipartisan group focused on advancing the legacy and contributions of New York’s Italian American population. For further information, contact Senator Palumbo’s District Office at palumbo@nysenate.gov.
