On March 12, a dedication ceremony took place for the newly remodeled Mastic-Shirley Long Island Railroad Plaza Shelter. The event was attended by Councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig and Suffolk County Legislator James Mazzarella. The station now includes a covered waiting area, LED security lighting, security cameras, new benches, disability ramp access to the platform, electronic signs, and Public Address equipment.

Councilwoman Dunne-Kesnig expressed satisfaction with the improvements: “A new station shelter was desperately needed for many, many years. I’d say it’s more than a facelift. I just hope and pray that the community and the people who come here let it stay this way.”

Town Supervisor Dan Panico has additional plans to address traffic congestion issues at William Floyd Parkway and Mastic Road by advocating for non-traffic blocking grade crossings.
