Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Daniel Losquadro has announced the introduction of a new website to gather community feedback on the development of a Townwide Vision Zero Action Plan. This plan aims to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries on roads owned by the Town by 2045.
The Town of Brookhaven is currently creating an action plan to meet this goal, and community input is being sought to shape it. Losquadro explained that the plan will integrate the Safe System Approach, which has backing from the Federal Highway Administration, by focusing on safer roads, speeds, people, vehicles, and improved post-crash care to achieve Vision Zero.
Recently, the Town conducted studies on crash data, speeds, traffic volumes, infrastructure, field observations, and demographics across all Town-owned roads to identify key areas for safety improvements. This process will result in a strategic plan detailing long-term goals and actionable steps for the Town's future.
“I would like to encourage residents to visit the project website at www.BrookhavenVisionZero.com to engage via the interactive map and community questionnaire,” Losquadro stated. He highlighted that the interactive map feature allows for comments and suggestions to be added at specific locations. “Please be encouraged to have a hand in ending fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways.”
