Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Alison Karppi, the Commissioner of Housing and Community Development, participated in Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk's "Wall Raising" event in Bellport. This event on Davidson Avenue marks the commencement of constructing a new home for the Rahman family. The "Wall Raising" is a ceremony where the walls of a Habitat for Humanity home are positioned, symbolizing the start of the building process.
Habitat for Humanity Executive Director and CEO, Diane Manders, and Chairman Kevin O’Connor, were also present at the event. The Town of Brookhaven donated the property for this project, along with an additional buildable lot, during the tenure of former Supervisor Ed Romaine, who is currently the Suffolk County Executive.
Supervisor Panico remarked, “I was honored to take part in this special day with Habitat for Humanity and the Rahman family. Long Island is facing a serious housing shortage, and projects like this help hardworking families achieve the dream of homeownership. Thanks to the dedicated volunteers, the Rahman’s will soon have a beautiful place to call home.”
Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has been committed to constructing simple, decent, and affordable housing. The Suffolk County chapter engages numerous volunteers to build and renovate homes, aiming to enable families to attain homeownership and enhance community strength.
