Paving projects completed in Ronkonkoma by Brookhaven officials

Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro and Councilman Neil Foley have reported the completion of two paving projects in the Ronkonkoma and Holbrook areas. The first project involved resurfacing Ackerly Lane, stretching from Portion Road in Ronkonkoma to Patchogue Holbrook Road in Holbrook. This project included inspections, drain installations, and the repair or replacement of damaged concrete curbing and aprons, with a total cost of $221,000.

Patrick Meade elected as American Physical Society fellow

Tierney announced the sentencing of Jose Martinez-Vazquez and Tiffany Diaz-Cabrera, both residents of Port Jefferson Station, for their involvement in the fatal stabbing of Benjamin Flores-Mendez. Martinez-Vazquez, 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, while Diaz-Cabrera, 21, admitted to first-degree manslaughter.

Deer Park man indicted for impersonating official and abusing disabled shelter resident

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney has announced the indictment of Alfred Balcerak III, a 65-year-old resident of Deer Park. Balcerak faces charges including Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the First Degree and Forcible Touching, following allegations that he impersonated a housing specialist from the Department of Social Services and sexually abused a resident at a homeless shelter.
