On March 15, Supervisor Ed Romaine was a panelist at Larry Swanson's 2023 Long Island Environmental Summit: Finding Solutions for Long Island's Impending Waste Management Crises, held at Stony Brook University’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. At the summit, local municipalities, private businesses and community groups were on-hand to discuss the issue of waste management. The event also featured several panels of speakers on topics including the future of solid waste management on Long Island; funding for waste infrastructure; improvements for waste-to-energy; and large-scale food waste management. Also discussed were ways to reduce waste, increase recycling, composting and new ways to bring in solid waste infrastructure. Joining Supervisor Romaine (left) on the panel were (left to right) Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaeffer; Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter; Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim; and David Vitale, Director of the Division of Materials Management at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
