RIVERHEAD, NY - Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) has successfully secured $1.25 million for the Town of Riverhead to support the Riverhead Public Water Main project. The funding, announced today, aims to enhance the existing infrastructure to ensure access to safe and clean drinking water for the residents of Riverhead.
Expressing his enthusiasm, LaLota stated, “I am thrilled to announce over $1 million in federal funding will be going to the Town of Riverhead. This funding will help the Town build upon the existing Public Water Main and ensure access to safe and clean drinking water.” He further emphasized the significance of such infrastructure projects in enhancing communities and improving the lives of Long Island families.
Town of Riverhead Supervisor Tim Hubbard also acknowledged the support received from federal officials, including LaLota, in addressing the crucial need for potable water. Hubbard conveyed his gratitude, stating, “On behalf of the Riverhead Town Board, I am very appreciative of the continued support and efforts of our Congressional delegation, Senator Charles Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congressman Nick LaLota for advocating for the needs of Riverhead residents in order to secure the funds to address this important public safety issue.”
The funding for the Town of Riverhead, sourced from the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations, will facilitate the extension of 37,000 feet of public water main. This extension will enable the connection of 90 homes located south and east of the former Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant at Calverton, ensuring access to safe, clean drinking water for residents currently relying on contaminated groundwater from private wells.
The initiative to improve the drinking water infrastructure in Riverhead underscores the commitment of local and federal authorities to prioritize public safety and enhance the quality of life for residents.
