Assemblyman Ed Flood (R,C Port Jefferson) stood alongside Congressman Marc Molinaro at the Capitol today, urging for an independent review of the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) COVID-19 nursing home order that mandated nursing homes to admit COVID positive patients four years ago.
Flood expressed his frustration, stating, "It is unbelievable it has been four years since the COVID nursing home order. What angers me most is that thousands of people died due to this ridiculous order, and the departments responsible refuse to take any kind of accountability for their actions." He emphasized the need to hold those responsible accountable for the devastating consequences of the order.
The NYSDOH's directive, which sparked controversy and criticism, prompted the establishment of the "Reimagining Long-Term Care Task Force" in 2022 to examine long-term care facilities. However, today, this task force faced scrutiny for its perceived lack of action.
To highlight the impact of the policies on the people of New York, the group was joined by "Voices for Seniors," who shared stories illustrating the repercussions of the NYSDOH order and the alleged absence of accountability from the state.
Flood and Molinaro's call for an independent review seeks to shed light on the events surrounding the COVID-19 nursing home order and ensure that those responsible are held answerable for their actions.
