Suffolk County released its latest COVID-19 update on May 2, 2024, highlighting key statistics related to the ongoing pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasized that "hospital admission rates and the percentage of COVID-19 deaths among all deaths are now the primary surveillance metrics."
In terms of hospitalizations, the data for the week ending April 27, 2024, showed promising trends. New hospital admissions of confirmed COVID-19 patients decreased by 17.5% compared to the previous week, with a total of 52 admissions. The report indicated that the level of COVID-19 hospital admissions in Suffolk County remains low, with 1.8 hospital admissions per 100,000 people.
As of May 2, 2024, 19 individuals were hospitalized in Suffolk County, with half of them being admitted due to COVID-19 or complications of the virus. Among the hospitalized individuals, there were 4 new admissions and 6 discharges since the last report. Additionally, one patient was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
