Senator Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) announced Captain Regina Gallagher Marengo as the 2024 New York State Senate Veteran Hall of Fame inductee for the 1st Senate District. Captain Marengo's distinguished 25-year career with the US Navy Civil Engineer Corps, her leadership, and commitment to service have earned her this recognition.

Captain Marengo recently retired from the US Navy Civil Engineer Corps after a 25-year tenure with the Construction Force. Her contributions include an 18-month mobilization and deployment to Iraq, where she served as the Plans Engineer for both 1 and 2 Marine Expeditionary Forces, overseeing logistics and construction coordination for Marine combat operations throughout Al Anbar Province.

In 2010, Captain Marengo commanded Naval Construction Battalion 26 and deployed to CENTCOM, leading the Seabees in constructing force protection at forward bases and performing contingency construction throughout the NATO ISAF AOR. NMCB 26 received several accolades under her command, including the 2011 Best of Type Battle E and the Army Presidential Unit Citation.

Throughout her career, Captain Marengo has held key leadership positions such as Lead Engineer in the European Command and Chief Engineer for the 7th Fleet in Korea. She currently serves as President of Ensign Engineering, P.C., located in Bronx, NY.

In addition to her professional achievements, Captain Marengo is an active member of VFW Post 5350 in Westhampton Beach, serving as Senior Vice Commander. Her commitment to supporting fellow veterans reflects values of honor, duty, and service. She is married to Bill Marengo; they have a son named William.

Senator Palumbo expressed his gratitude for CAPT Marengo's service: "It is an honor to recognize Captain Regina Gallagher Marengo for her exemplary service to our country and her commitment to helping the region’s veterans. Her dedication, leadership, and sacrifice embody the spirit of the Veterans Hall of Fame."

“Captain Marengo is an extraordinary individual who earned this recognition through her dedication and commitment to our community, state, and nation. It was my privilege to recognize her for her achievements and continued efforts on behalf of Long Island’s veterans.”

The New York Senate's Veterans' Hall of Fame was created to honor outstanding veterans who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life. Captain Marengo's induction into this hall later this year highlights her remarkable achievements.
