Assemblyman Joe DeStefano and Senator Dean Murray led a ceremony at the Medford Fire Department to honor the late Niel Marturiello. A section of Horseblock Road, also known as County Road 16, which crosses Interstate Route 495, has been named the "Medford FD Commissioner Niel Marturiello Memorial Bridge."

The event was attended by local officials including Legislators Dominick Thorne and Nick Caracappa, Councilmen Neil Foley and Mike Loguercio, along with representatives from community organizations.

Niel Marturiello served the Medford Fire Department for over 50 years and participated in rescue efforts such as the 9/11 recovery operations. Assemblyman DeStefano stated, “We are thankful to Gov. Hochul for signing our legislation to name this bridge in memory of Niel.”

Senator Murray highlighted Marturiello's contributions: “When you lose someone who is so beloved...you want to make sure that he and his deeds are remembered for generations to come.” He added that naming the bridge recognizes Marturiello's lifelong service.

County Executive Ed Romaine remarked on Marturiello’s exemplary spirit as a decorated war hero and first responder: “The Commissioner Niel Marturiello Memorial Bridge will stand as an enduring reminder of this formidable man.”

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico noted, “Although his life ended prematurely, his legacy will live on with this tribute.”

Suffolk County Legislator Dominick Thorne expressed gratitude for knowing Marturiello: “Mr. Marturiello...was involved in every public function with donations of his time.”

Councilman Neil Foley commented on Marturiello’s dedication: “His dedication and leadership touched countless lives, and this sign stands as a tribute to his remarkable legacy.”
