A man from Copiague, New York, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the rape of his 9-year-old stepdaughter. The sentencing follows a guilty plea entered in September 2024. In addition to the prison term, he will face 20 years of post-release supervision.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney commented on the case, stating, "Today, justice has been served, not only for the victim but for all children in our community who deserve to feel safe." He emphasized the seriousness of the crime and reiterated the commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals.

The incident occurred in February 2023 when the defendant abused his stepdaughter while her mother was at work. The child disclosed the abuse to her mother the next day due to fear of being left alone with him again. This led her mother to confront him and subsequently contact law enforcement. An investigation resulted in his arrest.

The defendant admitted guilt on September 20, 2024, before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis, pleading guilty to Rape in the First Degree, classified as a Class B felony.
