Neil Foley Council District 5 | Town of Brookhaven
The Town of Brookhaven has announced changes to its recycling schedule for the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management will not conduct collections on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, which fall on Wednesdays this year. As a result, the regular recycling days are postponed.
The revised schedule states that Saturday, December 28, will be designated as a Paper & Cardboard Recycling Day. Following that, Saturday, January 4, will serve as a Plastic & Metal Recycling Day.
Residents are reminded that many items from holiday celebrations can be recycled. These include cardboard boxes, plain wrapping paper, holiday cards, envelopes, and old paper gift bags. Such items should be placed out for collection on December 28. Conversely, glittery wrapping paper, bows and ribbons, and Styrofoam packaging should be disposed of in the trash. For musical holiday cards with batteries, it is advised to remove the battery for separate recycling through a battery recycling program.
