The Fifth Annual MLK Portrait Project exhibition is set to be displayed at Suffolk County Community College's Eastern Campus from January 29 through March 7, 2025. The event will take place in the Lyceum Gallery located within the Montaukett Learning Resource Center on the Riverhead Campus. A reception for the exhibition is scheduled for Thursday, February 27, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with refreshments provided and open attendance.
This exhibition honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and celebrates the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement. Local high school art students have collaborated to create mosaic portraits of civil rights heroes, resulting in over fifteen pieces measuring 48 x 48 inches each. East End Arts (EEA) has worked with students from more than sixteen local high schools over the past four years to produce these artworks. Proceeds from portrait sales will benefit EEA’s Scholarship Fund.
Suffolk County Community College’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host two special programs alongside this exhibit.
The gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; it remains closed on Saturdays and Sundays as well as on President’s Day, February 17, 2025.
