Stony Brook University is set to host the International Year of Quantum 2025 Educational Leadership Conference on March 12. Organized by the university's Institute for STEM Education and the Department of Physics and Astronomy, the event aims to bring together educators from universities and K-12 schools.
The conference, known as QuEST (Quantum Education for Students and Teachers), will take place at the Stony Brook Hilton Garden Inn from 8:30 am to noon. It targets university faculty, staff, and K-12 school leaders in STEM fields, including superintendents, principals, STEM directors, and lead teachers.
Funded by the National Science Foundation, this free conference is among the first of its kind in the United States. It aligns with the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology declared by the United Nations for 2025, marking a century since quantum mechanics' development.
Speakers will include Emily Edwards from Duke University and Chandrlakha Singh from the University of Pittsburgh, both representing the National Q-12 Partnership. The event will address workforce development needs in quantum information science and technology within New York State.
Keynote speaker Shadi Sandvik, SUNY Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Economic Development, will headline the conference. Stony Brook University Provost Carl Lejuez and Physics Chair Chang Kee Jung are scheduled to welcome attendees.
Registration is open online until February 15. Breakfast will be provided during the event. For further details, Angela Kelly can be contacted at angela.kelly@stonybook.edu.
