Stony Brook University is gearing up to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a series of events highlighting Asian cultural traditions. The celebrations are set to mark the Year of the Snake, which symbolizes wisdom, intuition, and transformation in the Chinese zodiac.
On January 28, attendees can participate in crafting paper lanterns and clay fortune cookies at an event organized by the Auxiliary Services Association Engagement Department in Shop Red West/ASA Hub in the Melville Library.
The Asian Student Alliance and Himalayan Student Alliance will host a Lunar Festival on January 30, offering traditional Chinese cuisine such as dumplings. A Fan-tastic celebration will follow on January 31 at the SAC fishbowl with fan painting and other activities.
The Vietnamese Student Association will hold a festival on February 4 featuring booths that explore New Year traditions, including calligraphy and classic games. On February 5, Jasmine in the Charles B. Wang Center will serve a special menu alongside festivities like a lion dance.
Chinablue's annual event also takes place on February 5 with free food and prizes. The Cantonese Club invites students to their first semester event on February 6 for games and food.
The H Community’s celebration is scheduled for February 9, showcasing live performances from cultural organizations and offering traditional dishes along with a DIY Boba bar.
Concluding the events is Sangjaru's performance at Charles B. Wang Center Theatre on February 20. This Korean folk fusion band will present a blend of traditional melodies with modern influences.
