Neil Foley Council District 5 | Town of Brookhaven
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Councilman Neil Foley are seeking assistance from residents to identify three males, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, responsible for vandalizing the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Park at Lake Ronkonkoma. The incident occurred on the night of September 2, after 8:00 pm, involving graffiti on a building and spray painting a security camera. The suspects were seen driving a dark-colored sedan of unknown make and model.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Officer Eustache at the Suffolk County Police Department's 4th Precinct Crime Control Section at (631) 854-8400.
Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Navy SEAL from Patchogue, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during an intense firefight in Afghanistan in 2005. On January 17, 2019, Dan Murphy, father of Lt. Michael P. Murphy, along with members of the Brookhaven Town Board, led a rededication ceremony at the memorial site. The original etched stone monument was destroyed by vandalism in July 2018 and subsequently replaced with a donation from Lido Stone of Calverton. The town also collaborated with Penn Globe to install two surveillance cameras and security lights to monitor park activities.
