In a recent session of the US House of Representatives, Rep. Nick LaLota from New York's 1st District emphasized the importance of federal funding for research and education to maintain America's global leadership in innovation. He highlighted Stony Brook University as a significant example of the advancements made possible through such investments.

LaLota's comments come at a crucial time as the United States strives to uphold its technological edge in an increasingly competitive global landscape. He stressed the need for "strong investments in research and education," noting that Stony Brook is "a prime example of the extraordinary advancements that come from such support." The congressman further stated, "Stony Brook’s role as a quantum internet testbed and its status as a hub of transformative research demonstrates the immense potential of continued federal investments in higher education."

Following his remarks, various national higher education and research associations expressed their gratitude on social media. Organizations like the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) thanked Rep. LaLota for highlighting the significance of federally funded university research and education in maintaining US innovation leadership. Richard McCormick, Interim President of Stony Brook University, also expressed appreciation, acknowledging LaLota as "a steadfast champion for science" who helps ensure that institutions like Stony Brook continue to drive future innovation and discovery.

Stony Brook University's Office of Federal Relations, located in Washington, DC, collaborates closely with Rep. LaLota and his team to advance the university's federal priorities and promote its pioneering research efforts in the nation's capital.
