Six William Floyd High School athletes have been honored by Newsday by being named to the paper's top player lists for the 2025 varsity spring sports season. These student-athletes, representing various sports, have displayed significant talent and achievements.
Jack Molini, a senior at William Floyd High School, has been recognized as a top-100 baseball player. Molini is both a first baseman and a pitcher, noted for his "standout 2024 season" in which he achieved a .455 average and 28 RBIs. His pitching record includes a 1.90 ERA with 66 strikeouts across 54 1/3 innings. Additionally, Molini contributed to securing the Colonials a playoff spot. Beyond baseball, he also played varsity football as a quarterback, receiver, and defensive end. Post-graduation, Molini will pursue a Division I baseball career at Le Moyne College.
Junior Emma DiMaio has been named a top-100 girls' lacrosse player. DiMaio, an attacker, registered 37 goals and 45 assists last season, earning her team a playoff victory. Newsday described her as "an excellent feeder with great field vision and understanding of the game." DiMaio is also a soccer team captain, where she achieved All-County recognition. She is set to continue her lacrosse career at Stony Brook University after graduating in 2026.
Marc Pluchino, a junior midfielder in boys' lacrosse, has secured a place among Newsday's top-100 players. Pluchino's contributions include 22 goals and 23 assists from the last season. His coach, Desmond Megna, praised his versatility and highlighted his ability to score "big goals in big games."
Senior Zariel Macchia has been acknowledged as a top-50 female track runner. She has been described by Newsday as "one of the greatest athletes in state history," particularly for her national-best time of 9:21.73 in the 3,000-meter run. Macchia, who has accumulated seven individual state championships, will be joining Brigham Young University's track team after graduation.
Divine Bennett, a junior, has been listed among the top-50 in boys' track for his performance in the triple jump. Newsday noted his performance of "44 feet, 8 inches," ranking him 13th in the state. Bennett has had notable finishes in various competitions and aims to build on these successes in the upcoming season.
Senior Joshua Jordan has also been named a top-50 male track runner. Newsday highlighted his personal best of "10.72 in the 100 [meter dash]." Jordan's track record includes All-County, All-League honors, and two county championships. He is also recognized for his dual sporting achievements in football.
